Enjoy this story from my new book: Untold Stories from a Chicago Police Officer…

In the 18th District, a car chase was in progress. Officer Murphy and his partner were too far away to be of any assistance, so they just meandered toward the general direction where the chase was going. Lo and behold, the chase was now heading toward them at a high rate of speed. A crash was heard, and as Murphy made the turn, he observed the offending vehicle slide sideways while traveling too fast to maintain contact with the road. The vehicle careened off the curb, blowing both tires on one side of the car while lodging between a fire hydrant and a light post. The vehicle fit perfectly, with only inches to spare in front and rear. As numerous officers exited their vehicles and cautiously approached the blocked-in vehicle, a siren was still heard down the street, progressively getting louder and louder. Just then, they spotted a squad car flying with blue lights and oscillating headlights. The closer it got, the farther away the officers on foot got away from the wedged-in car. The lone squad headed directly toward the blocked-in vehicle, made an abrupt 90-degree turn, and T-boned the target, causing metal and glass to fly everywhere.
The officers sprang from the crashed squad car and introduced themselves to the occupants of the pursued vehicle with a bing, bang, ding, and thud. The vehicle was reported stolen, and the late-arriving officers placed two offenders under arrest for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Murph had an opportunity to speak to one of the arresting officers later in the shift. Murph commented about the unusual method of apprehension used and was told, “Nobody runs from me, and fuckin gets away.”
